Meet The Team

The Year 6 teachers are Miss Brown (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays) & Mr Owens (Thursdays and Fridays)

Mrs Moore, Mr Beckett and Mr Van De Leeuw are our Learning Support Assistants. 

Important Information

P.E - Wednesdays and Fridays

Year 6 do not need to come to school in their P.E kit on these days, they will change on the day. Year 6 will be going home in their P.E kits on these days too so kit needs to be in for the next P.E session. 

Forest School 

Year 6 will have Forest School Days. They will have 3 over the year. Dates will be released to parents with plenty of time to get ready.

Curriculum Information

Autumn 1 - Crime and Punishment

Welcome back!

Writing

Our writing this half term will be focused around our SPaG programme. We will also be recapping our genres from Y5 and tackling mini writing sessions each week to reflect them.

Reading 

Over the term will be practising a variety of comprehension (VIPERS) skills including: inferencing and predicting and we will also be covering a number of vocabulary, grammar and punctuation objectives. Reading is such an important skill; it really unlocks all areas of the curriculum. 

SPaG

This will be our big focus for the half term. Y6 will use their English sessions to polish up their SPaG from Y5 and learn the new content for Y6. We feel positive that this will ensure they feel really confident about their writing throughout Y6.

Maths

In Year 6 we follow the White Rose Maths scheme at Long Crendon. This half term we will be focusing on Place Value and starting out 4 rule operation work.

History & Geography 

A fantastic start to the Y6 year, we begin with a history topic: Crime and Punishment throughout the ages. Looking back over all of the history topics that Y6 have previously studied and seeing how both crime and punishment has changed. 

Science

This term, we will be learning about the way our bodies work. We will look at the impact of exercise, diet, lifestyle and drugs on the way our bodies function. We will then investigate the circulatory system including the heart to see how this works.

Art & DT 

For our first half term , Autumn 1, we will be enjoying an Art focus. We will look at mark making and how we can extend this to be more creative in how we draw, see patterns and line. We will include some graffiti art work which links nicely to our Crime and Punishment topic this half term. 

PE - Taught by S4A ( Sports For All)

S4A will be running our Year 6 P.E sessions. This term they will focus on Football and 

Computing - Taught by Mrs Duffy

At Long Crendon we use the Purple Mash scheme in our ICT lessons. Our topics for this term are: 

Music - Taught by Mr Duncan

French

This term, we will be learning about French sports and the Olympics. We will use this starting point to look at French grammar and countries around the world.

RE

We will be learning about the origins of different world views and religions around the world, investigating the social and cultural understanding of this.

PSHE 

This half term our PSHE topic is Being Me in My World. It is all about goal setting and thinking ahead to what we want to achieve.
