Curriculum Information

Summer Term - The Greeks

Our writing this half term will be focused around non-fiction texts. We will be studying the Greeks and writing across a variety of different genres, capturing lots different areas of the Greeks.

In Year 6 we follow the White Rose Maths scheme at Long Crendon School. This final term we will be focusing on revising all the areas of maths we have studied over the year. As well as this we complete transition work ready for Y7 and complete maths projects that get the children investigating maths problems.

History & Geography

This half term Y6 will be following both a Geography and History focus: The Greeks!

The children will first learn about the different periods of ancient Greece, and place the civilisation in time. They will explore how the different areas of Greece were governed, and compare the two city-states of Athens and Sparta. Children will use primary and secondary sources to find out about the daily life of the ancient Greeks, before exploring Greek mythology and the impact of some of the great philosophers of the time. In the final lesson, we will reflect on how the ancient Greek civilisation still influences modern life today.

Art & DT

This half term will be a Art focus. Sculpture and 3D. Making Memories is the focus. Children will create a variety of pieces: exploring self, relief work, creating memory museums and a memory sculpture.
