Learn how trials and court systems evolved, including how guilt or innocence was decided and the role of juries.
Investigate the types of punishments used in different eras — from public humiliations and corporal punishment to prison sentences — and how these acted as deterrents.
Find out when and where the first police force was introduced and how it helped to keep communities safe.
By the end of the unit, pupils will have a strong understanding of how ideas about crime, punishment, and law enforcement have developed over the centuries.
