Curriculum Information Spring 2023

English

This term our topic is space and we are starting with the book Here comes the aliens by Clive McNaughton. This is the link to the book on you tube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTgpTat8xiA

We will be focusing on developing our writing by adding conjunctions (joining words like and, but, because etc… We will continue to use full stops, fingers spaces, capital letters and a variety of punctuation.

We will be creating our own aliens and planets to write adventures about.

Reading

We have a daily story slot after lunch, during which time we read a variety of picture books. Every child in the class is heard read by a teacher over a two week period.

Maths

In Maths we will be learning about place value to 20 and then 50, addition and subtraction up to 20, We will compare length and height and mass and volume.

Science

This term we are learning about everyday materials and their properties.

History

This term we are learning about space focusing on moon landings, famous astronauts and animals!

Geography

This term we are continuing to learn about hot and cold places and learn about the 7 continents and 5 oceans and naming, locating and identifying characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas.

RE

This term we are looking at belonging to a religion and about weddings, christenings, baptisms and Bar Mitzvah.

PSHE

This term we are looking at dreams and goals and then healthy me.  

Design and Technology

This term we are learning about structures and creating our own playground equipment.

Art

This term we are learning about the artist Paul Klee and creating our own art work in his style.

Computing

This term we are learning about Maze Explorers and Animated Storybooks.

Year 1 work for Monday 12th December 2022

This week in Maths we are focusing on 2D shapes. Go through the attached power point and then cut out a triangle, square, circle, rectangle and pentagon. How many sides does each shape have? Are the sides straight or curved? How many vertices do they have? (A vertex is where the 2 lines meet to form a corner.) Then create a Christmas picture using the 2D shapes. 

In English we are writing an acrostic poem about our favourite animal. Go through the attached power point with your child and then help them to write a poem of their favourite animal. 

Finally go outside and see how many 3D shapes you can make out of the snow and have fun!

Curriculum Information

English

This term we are using the book We're Going on a Bear Hunt, animal poetry and fact files about animals. In writing we are focusing full stops, finger spaces and capital letters.

This term in number we are focusing on place value up to 10/20, addition and subtraction up to 20, 1 more and 1 less and number bonds to 10. In geometry we are learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. 

Science

This term we are learning about animals including humans and seasonal changes. 

History

This term we are learning about toys within living memory. 

Geography

This term we are focusing on weather and seasons, daily weather patterns in the UK and the location of hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the equator, North and South Poles.

RE

This term we are looking at what makes me, me and how religions believe what people are like and what they should be like and then why we celebrate special occasions focusing on Christianity and Judaism. 

PSHE

This term we are looking at being me in my world and celebrating our differences including anti bullying. 

Design and Technology

This term we are learning about healthy eating and will be making a fruit salad.

Art

This term we are learning about the sculpture of Andy Goldsworthy. 

Computing

This term we are learning about online safety and and grouping and sorting pictograms.
