Summer Term – Issue 31 – June 26 2015

Dear Parents/Carers

Last week some of the children enjoyed cycling and scooting in the fine weather. Year 6 had their annual picnic in the park at the end of their cycle ride. It was a pleasure to see everyone being so sensible and careful. It is an invaluable life lesson which I am sure the children will remember and continue to put into practice.
Kind regards
Sue Stamp

PTA SPONSORED TRIATHALON

Thank you to everyone who helped to make this annual event a success. It’s great to see so many children taking part. Please remember the deadline to hand in your sponsorship money is Friday 3rd July.

PARENTMAIL APP

Parents using the APP have told us that it makes using the system much easier. This can be downloaded when you log in to Parentmail. There has been an upgrade to Parentmail this week which we hope will improve the service. Please try it and let us know – we welcome your feedback!

SPORTS DAY 10th JULY 2015

Weather permitting, our annual sports day will take place on Friday 10th July between 9.15am and 12.00. Parents are welcome to make their way to the field after drop off while the children get organised. You should have received a Parentmail this week with further details (there is a typo – the date is in July, not June!). We have taken on board all your feedback from last year and will be using a different format this year.

GREEN FLAG

We are pleased to announce that we have retained the prestigious ‘Green Flag Award’ for being an eco-friendly school. The flag is now flying high on our school fort.

PLIMSOLLS

When children do PE in the hall, they are often required to go barefoot (particularly, for safety reasons, when using gym equipment). We have taken medical advice and have been informed that the risk of children contracting veruccas by going barefoot inside is minimal. As a result of this, we no longer require children to have plimsolls for PE. They will need a pair of trainers for outdoor sports activities.

THAME SHOW

The Thame Show takes place on Thursday 17th September. The organisers are very keen to involve children as much as possible. Our current Year 4, who will be Year 5 in September, will all attend to sing in the Thame Schools Choir. They will then have the opportunity to spend the day at the show, where various activities have been planned for them. The organisers are looking for maximum participation by children this year and have asked that we encourage as many children as possible to enter the art competition. This is being set as an art homework for the children. The theme is “Market”: There are 3 categories:

  • A painting of a Market
  • A model of a Market
  • A collage of a Market

All need to be A4 size. The competition is broken up into 2 age groups: 5-8yrs and 8-11yrs for Primary.
There is free entry into the competition for the children. Mrs Leith has some leaflets if you would like further information. There will be a Thame Show Diploma for the best exhibit in the junior art classes.

BOTTLES

Thank you to everyone who has contributed bottles. We have now completed the bottle building part of the greenhouse and we hope to be able do the rest by recycling the acrylic sheeting from the conservatory, which is soon to have a new roof!
