How Do We Plan Our Curriculum?
At Long Crendon, we aim to give the children meaningful links between subjects. Skills and knowledge are linked by a theme. We involve children in our planning by letting them know what things we want them to learn for the term and asking them for ideas of how they might enjoy learning them! Their ideas are amazing! A recent Year 6 topic became "On the Edge" Our objectives were: mountains; habitats; persuasion; adventure stories; biographies. The children were really interested in survival and extreme sports on mountains. The whole of the upstairs was converted to an outdoor persuits centre! Did they learn lots about mountains and habitats? Absolutely!
When we plan our topics we look at clear learning intentions but keep the detail and the contexts of learning flexible. This means that we can work with the children's interests and change things as we move along.
