Year 2 – Walnut Class

Welcome to the year 2 class page. The year 2 teacher is Mrs Deppe who is supported by Mrs Basu.

Home learning

As you know, this half term the children have been learning all about The Great Fire of London. On the home learning grid below, I have tried to include lots of cross curricular activities to continue our topic. Please feel free to also look at the topic web below this section to see if there is anything else you could cover.

As the school is closed, I would still like you to maintain a level of education whilst at home and structure is really important. Below is the ‘year 2 home learning grid’ with a range of activities for them to do over the weeks we are closed. Some will require more support from you and others may be ones they can do independently, with you supporting them afterwards. With writing tasks, it is useful for you to encourage the children to proof read if possible (checking their punctuation, spelling, capital letters and that their sentences make sense). They are used to doing this in class.

Some activities can be done over a couple of days, some can be revisited, and others others will be stand alone.

Some of the activities on the grid say to see template on the class page. These are all located below the year 2 home learning grid.

I will be updating the page with more resources and activities (including year 2 spelling activities – word searches, crosswords).

In addition to the grid, I have updated the ‘useful links’ section with lots of websites, workbooks and ideas so please have a look at those.

I have included some past SATs papers on the links. Although SATs will no be going ahead this year, the booklets are very useful to work through to practise questions related to the year 2 maths curriculum and comprehension questions.

Don’t forget, I will still be on hand to answer any questions you may have, so please feel free to email me.

Daily learning should include:

  • Reading to an adult for 10 minutes with questioning or an activity from the grid that involves reading
  • Activities from the grid Year 2 home learning grid
  • Spellings – I will update you on the spellings and activities each week – it will be a word search or something along those lines, just so they are familiar with the words/rules we would have covered or there is the tricky words task on the grid of course.

Each week:

Continue to do the homework from the grid (if you haven’t got the learning log with the grid, you can find it below in the Spring 2 section).
